The drizzle and rain outside match our spirits inside today. This is the day we were supposed to travel to Washington, D.C. with our covenant group for a Spring Break mission trip (as part of Highland's 2005 "Into All the World" effort with about 500 members targeting various areas around the world). But because of Chris's injuries we couldn't make the trip. Our prayers are with the others who went, though. They'll be at the Fairfax Church of Christ tomorrow morning and the Springfield Church of Christ tomorrow evening, then participating in an inner city ministry the following days.

  • Just got home from a long day and found your post. Take heart. Things are really tough right now, and especially for a 12 year old in pain and missing a great trip. But they WILL get better and there will be many fun trips ahead when he is well and whole. Let your minds and hearts be at ease as much as possible with the thought that God is working things out for "good" in ways you'll probably never know through the terrible things that have happened.

That's what Paul tells us in Romans 8:28 and I have certainly held that verse (and chapter) close to my heart through many a heartache in this life. You know what? For every bad and terrible thing that has ever happened to me, God has made even better good come out of it and turned it into strengths I scarcely knew I had.

That is what you need to be telling Chris through all of this and imprinting on his tender 12 year old heart. He is setting an example for people around the world just as much as those of his friends on their way to Washington, D.C. and so are you, his dad and mom.

Take heart. Good things, better things than ever, are yet to come.

  • I am so sorry you are having to miss out on this trip. While you and Diane rejoice at the fact that there can and will be other trips, I doubt that comforts Chris right now! I hope you are able to do something really fun. I guess this could be an opportunity to check out all the wheel chair accessible venues in the metro plex or Houston?
I hope you guys have a good Spring Break where ever you are!
