DOWN SIDE: Have you seen Inconsiderate Cell Phone Man on a tv commercial? He's primed to be a cult hero -- for those who are weary of hearing cell phone conversations in every little corner of life. UP SIDE: Last night as 1700 students sat in the amphitheater with their candles lit, I saw lots of upperclassmen snapping photos with their cell phones and punching numbers to send the pictures. There were parents and grandparents all over the country (and world?) getting to enjoy the moment in realtime! - - - - As of last month, we have a teenager again in our house. So thanks to TIME magazine for their special issue on "Being 13." Don't miss the article on teen spirituality which talks about how churches "have begun to see 13 as a pivotal age for finding God."

  • "Next Thing You Know" by Matthew West is a great song about how he came to Christ at age 13.

So....3 years until he drives, huh? ;)

  • The article about thriteen year olds and spirituality was great and the whole piece was very insightful.

DOWN SIDE: You get less hugs than you did at 12. UP SIDE: They make more of their own decisions and watching your child make a great decision totally on their own is awesome!

    Love you Mike.

  • Mike, I'm having trouble sending email so I'm pasting this email in a comment in hopes that you get it.

    Bro Co,

Mr. Incredible here, I thought of you today as I posted on my blog about Kim’s last day at ACU which was yesterday. I dug up those kind words that you said about Kim last year. I just wanted you to know how much I (both of us. All of us) appreciate you and love you and Diane and Chris. I’m so glad that you are coming Saturday night. Also, if you wanted (had time) to grab a quick breakfast or drink on Saturday morning I’d love to. Just let me know. If not, then you will just have to come to DFW for a Pappasito’s trip.

I love you Mike and pray that I can serve others and share the Story like you. Thanks for being a great example.

    Joel

  • I just want you to know that I have scars from the sacrifice I made to hear you speak last night! Ha, ha, ha. I was one of the upperclassmen in the group lining the sidewalks from Moody, and after all the freshmen entered, my friends and I went around the backside of the amphitheater to find a spot to hear you. We got attacked by fire ants on the way up! But those ant bites were well worth it to hear you speak. Thanks for blessing the freshmen again. Your special message to them never gets old; I have enjoyed it every year of my college career. Love you!

  • Mike,
Thank you for your thoughts on Megan. Your daughter's birthday coincide with the day that our son went home to the Lord in 1990... Our articles showed up in the same Chr Standard a couple of weeks ago... your thoughts blessed me. Carol and I used to think that with time the missing would somehow change... it does, but not how I ever expected. Will think of you when we go to the cemetery tomorrow - we don't go much, but once in awhile and always on the invariably hot day of Aug 26 -
Blessings to you and yours -
    Chris DeWelt
