John Kennedy was asked by a little boy how he became a war hero. He replied, "It was absolutely involuntary. They sank my boat." Most of my heroes of faith are people of character who have weathered grief and suffering with honesty and faith. Not "God-can't-wait-to-bless-you" faith. But the deep, rugged variety. The kind that knows what it's like to hang on by a thread. I guess they didn't seek out to be courageous believers. They're like Bilbo: the ring came to him. Then he had to choose whether to carry out his assignment. Kerri Lane, who gave her testimony Wednesday night, is one of my heroes. The words she spoke to us Wednesday night in the midst of her battle with melanoma are among the most faith-full we'll ever hear. On behalf of her two precious little girls (who make me glad to be a minister), I ask you to beg for God's against-all-medical-odds healing.

  • Thank you and Kerri for reminding me this morning what is most important.

(Wouldn't it be great if Highland had streaming audio so we all could hear testimonies like Kerri's (and other sermons)

  • Mike, you're starting to get computer generated advertising comments in here...

You should probably go into your blogger dashboard and enable the "Show Word Verification for Comments" option under the Settings-->Comments tabs if you want to make that stop, I think. People who want to comment will have to enter a word that they see onscreen. Easy process.

  • Mike,

Kerri has become one of my mentors and heroes in the way that she has faithfully, dilligently, and passionately held unswervingly to the hand of the Ultimate Healer. I praise God for her and for the valiant way she is fighting! Be blessed today!

  • Thanks so much, B-Rock. I have just done that (carefully following your instructions!).

Did everyone understand that you'll have to type in a word verification that will appear on the screen in order to comment? This is to keep out these computer-generated ads for Cialis, etc. :)

  • Mike, I second the motion for streaming on the Highland website, in fact, I'd hope for an available archive.

In my case, Wed. nights are now dedicated to the Freedom Church study/prayer group, so will be missing Oasis.

Hopefully, Kerri's testimony is available on tape/cd.

Kerri is a very special lady in the LORD!! I've bundled my prayers for her along with those for Ruby and Diana who are tracing her steps down the melanoma-battle road.

Bless you for keeping this prayer focus in the forefront here.

Kerri and I are in the same Sunday morning class. She not only is a LORD guided lady, but has managed to keep a sharp, wonderful sense of humor. You just can't help but admire and love her!!

  • Kerri has a new post on her blog kcjlane.blogspot.com for those of you interested. Without a doubt it will cause you to fall on your knees begging the Lord for a miracle.

  • Thanks, Kendra. I just went back and added that link to my post. Kerri hadn't been posting on her blog, so I didn't think to check first. Mike

  • Mike,
You've made the switch to Mac, now come join the light side of the Blogging World by using WordPress.

  • Mike it was so great to meet you face to face. Its amazing the connections you can make on the blogger world, yet the distance that can still exist.. none the less it was great to bridge the gap. Same to you Kathy, you have a beautiful smile! Anyways.. I have been mulling/ praying over the thing you mentioned about the translating at the prison and wouldn't mind talking to you about it more. God is charging me to take some leaps and bounds this semester and so despite fear and possible humiliation, Id love to talk more about it with you. I forgot if you said it was weeks away or months. We'll keep in touch.
