We'll be home by noon. We've had a wonderful ride in the car -- all five of us -- despite all the smoke from out-of-control fires in Oklahoma and Texas, the traditional traffic delays in Oklahoma City, and the quest for a decent radio station. Once you get within range of DFW, you can get 98.7, which plays the best of the oldies (compared to other oldies stations we can find which tend to play the worst of the oldies). My FM transmiter for my IPOD does make the quest for good music a bit easier. One week from today is the big game. Texas hasn't won a national championship since 1970. With the best QB in college foot ball, this could be the year. Maybe my blogging will be more substantial when I get back to OUR house and MY office. Or not.

  • That's quite a road trip from Abilene to Neosho and back.

Some of my best memories are road trips.

We were traveling once from Cleveland to Vermont on a warm July 3rd evening. It was about 10:00 PM and we were driving in the hills of NY State. As we topped a hill onto a plateau directly to our left at eye level were fireworks from the valley below. We pulled to the side of the practically deserted highway and watched the finale.

The next three cars did the same thing.

We all cheered as hard as the folks in the valley at the end.

Road trips have their cons – but they also offer opportunities for bonding and mutually shared experiences that other modes of travel don’t offer.

Hope the rest of your week is just as fun!

  • We are leaving this afternoon to go skiing, & for the first time in a long time, flying rather than driving. We've always driven to the mountains at Spring Break, & to the beach in the summer. Some of my favorite memories are those road trips with the boys(& a caravan with friends at Spring Break). If your kids are good travellers, it's fun. If they're not, it's better to stay home where there is room to get away.

  • Sorry but I don't think you'll end the quest for a national championship. USC looks too tough and I think Matt will have something to show you about that "best quarterback" comment.

  • Tommy - Thanks for the comment. I thought surely someone would take exception to my claim that Young is the best college quarterback. He is . . . but I still thought someone would notice that USC has a pretty decent QB as well.

  • We're still enroute from our Christmas trip -- Dallas to Tullahoma TN is a pretty long trip. Glad you all made it home safely.

  • Mike,
My wife gave me a Sirius radio receiver for Christmas - what a gift - the channel selections are unreal! Here's hoping I get it installed and operating before Spring.

VY & Co. will make Fresno State look like a junior college. Our Texas boys will win.

  • Kent, as a Fresno native I want to take exception to your comment about us being made to look like a junior college.

    I want to.

    Really I do.

Can't though. I watched too many games, especially the last three.

    Is it baseball season yet?

  • This really puts me in a quandry.

USC - Yes! It's my home state school.

Texas - Yes! It's my now home state school.

Can you say D.I.D? Which personality do I choose for the game? Which one, which one, which one????

I'll just decide AFTER the game, okay? LOL

  • Oh dear, what a quandry!

USC - Yes! My home state school

Texas - Yes! My new home state school

Which way to turn? Which personality to bring out?

Guess I'll make that decision AFTER the game. :O)
