What a treat to be at the Fresno Zoe Conference -- especially since I had to cancel at the last minute last year because we were at Cook's Children's hospital following the wreck. These are incredible folks here at College Church who host the conference each January. When I agreed to come, I didn't know this would be the weekend of the 7th grade "A" team tournament. Apparently last night I missed seeing Chris, our point guard, make a 3-point shot just before the buzzer to send us into OT against Clack. We won in double OT and play at noon today (presumably against Mann Middle School) for the championship. I can't believe I wasn't there for that moment. I haven't missed many big sports moments with the boys, but this was one. Nevertheless, no one in my family resents my being here. We love the Zoe ministry, and I'm glad to be in Fresno. Just wish ESPN 2 would carry that 7th grade championship game at noon!

  • You know how there are individuals that no matter how they change, you still have envision them at a certain age? I have that with Chris. I envision this three-year-old boy in with Dad at Burger King on Judge Ely. Oh how the years fly right on by.

I love the way you speak openly of trying to maintain balance. Deana would always share stories of that when working with you. I still have to work on that in my life. I have a love/hate relationship with my summer schedule.

  • Chad, I feel the same way about Chris...only in my mind he's still 5 because that's how old he was when I started baby-sitting him. It's funny to feel so old when you're only 20, but when I hugged Chris last weekend and realized he was TALLER than me...boy, I certainly felt old. It makes me smile to hear about how well he is doing in basketball, especially remembering where he was a year ago. God is good, and I praise Him for your family all the time! Love you.

  • Game over. Even though ESPN 2 didn't cover it, my friend Josh Ross did -- offering me a play-by-play over cell phone. Game just ended. Chris knocked down three 3-point shots at the end of the game, but we still came up a point short. Lots of fun.

Now, if we can just get video on these cell phones . . . .

  • Don't forget to post "Mike Cope Sings the Classics" on the web once Fresno is over. You promised!

  • I'm so glad to have that commercial on DVD. I'm going to run it every now and then when I preach. It'll be like one of those SNL commercials that keep popping up from show to show. It'll replace the Bass-O-Matic.

I was commissioned tonight. I can't wait to get started!

  • Greetings from KY! Thanks so much for your blog. I love the way you keep it real and relevant...you are a blessing to many. I really love your church hopper post, I wish you would delve more into those attitudes. I have wanted to be a chuch hopper many times but prayed for my church instead, the results are incredible! God is faithful and answers those prayers.
